Plot Summary: At the start of every November are the Scorpio Races, a dangerous race along the ocean shore atop capaill uisce -- flesh-eating water horse which come from the sea. This year will be Puck Connolly's first year riding -- as the first girl ever to participate in the race. She prepares for the race under the tutelage of Sean Kendrick, four time winner of the Scorpio Races. With much at stake for both of them, and wit the knowledge that there can only be one winner, the two dedicate themselves to their training as their bond of friendship grows stronger.
